About the Symposium

Plantation crops, mainly Coconut, Rubber, Tea and Sugarcane, are important to Sri Lanka as a stand-out source of foreign exchange. Significant contribution to country’s GDP by these major plantation crops indicates that they are major contributors to the economic growth and national prosperity of Sri Lanka. The intense competition in the global market is, however, constantly challenging the plantation sector in the process of ensuring its sustainability. The sixth symposium on Plantation Crop research jointly organized by CRI, RRI, TRI and SRI highlights the theme “Plantation Agriculture towards National Prosperity”. The aim of the Conference is to bring together the scientists, industrialists, investors, plantation managers, academics and policy makers to share the latest advances in plantation crop research and blend this new knowledge with their experience to make an effort in the direction of using plantation agriculture towards national prosperity.  This conference signifies an ideal opportunity to address global challenges to Sri Lankan economy and to identify and discuss supporting measures from plantation sector and directions of research to face the future challenges.
